It's funny, because I grew up listening to her music and after a while, it seemed she would always be here. Year after year, I could always count on seeing her at the Copacabana or buying her newest CD. But reality has caught up with me this time.

Sandy,
If you told her so many times, than all you can do now is let her learn the way we all do - by living. I've made the same mistake she made on account of my mother and sure enough, I got married, and got divorced before I was 25. I remarried but this time, it's on my terms and it's sooo much better. What makes it better is that we're both ex JWs so we already know what we want and don't want.
Having a boyfriend at her age is unavoidable. The best you can do is show her how to enjoy this time in her life responsibly and step away from the situation.

How do you manage your money?
by Billygoat inas a child, i used to baby-sit kids in the neighborhood for money.
it wasnt much, but $2 or $3 an hour to a 14 year-old back in the early/mid 80s was pretty big stuff.
on new years eve when a lot of parents were clamoring for baby-sitters, the price would go up to $5 an hour, which was awesome.

The best thing to do is to invest securely for the long term. Stay away from the stock market and stick to sure bets like savings bonds, CDs, and real estate.
Try to stay away from credit card debt as much as possible. Keep some credit cards, but use them for things you REALLY need.

I would advise your niece to take things just a little bit slow with the boys and to focus on her education. Whether she was a JW or not I think that teens need to get themselves together first before they get seriously involved in a relationship.
HOWEVER, this does not mean that she shouldn't date or go out with her boyfriend. What I mean is that she should be careful not to committ her time/energy/emotions to a serious relationship. At her age, it's not worth it.
Unfortunately, JW parents have a way of forcing their kids into situations they don't intend for themselves by not allowing ANY interaction with the opposite sex. Why should a young lady have to move out and possibly get into more 'trouble' just because she has an interest in the opposite sex?
I'm sure if your niece said she wanted to go to 'Bethel', her mother would've thrown a party for her. But since your niece is not living her mother's dream, too bad right?
Tell your niece that in time, her mother will regret being so strict with her.

I think God is going to love me because I left the JWs, AND JOINED THE ARMY!
Besides, I'd rather go door to door looking for Osama then a boring bible study.

Do JW couples really have better relationships?
by Latin assassin from Manhattan inare jw marriages any better than the ones 'in the world' as they put it?
when they walk from door to door or mingle after a meeting they appear to be models of ideal marriages.
do you have any experiences with married couples in the 'truth'?

I have a good one for you all.
Have you ever dated someone and gone through all the motions (flirting, dating, sex) and then found out he/she was a JW after they had a 'Coming To Jesus' and realized YOU were no good for their 'spirituality'?

Who really writes the talks
by anglise inhallo everyone.
the earlier thread about the min school reminded me of the number of times that i researched and at least partly put together items and pub talks for 'he must be obeyed'.. this was necessary because he worked full time in a demanding job which left very little leeway for cobbling the many assignments together.
at first being a good dub wife i felt guilty at doing this but in talking to others whose husbands also worked full time and were not part time cleaners or window cleaners i found that several other elders wives had always done this.. not only the talks but also sorting out the school assigments, the schedules, field service arrangements, sorting the auditing, coach and accomodation for the dc and ca, checking the accounts etc.. lots of these sisters also helped their children put together their items.. rather makes a mockery of the male privilege of "taking the lead".. most elders and ms are unable to cope with all the pressures and work if their wives dont do most for them.

I believe the socio-economic status of the elder depends on whether he developed any skills before entering the truth. You can't tell me you've known an elder or a pioneer going to night school. The thrust of my point was that once somemone becomes fully involved in the truth, they devote little time for developing the future lives of their families. An entrepeneur who enters the truth is a rare thing. A JW who becomes an entrepeneur while in the truth is almost impossible.

What if ... the Watchtower charged for books/magazines ???
by run dont walk ini've been out of the borg for awhile, so help me out on this.. am i to assume that the watchtower went from charging for magazines to a donation system, simply because of paying taxes ???
didn't jesus say "return caesar's things to caesar".
so if the watchtower would of continued charging for magazines, so they would have had to pay a little tax, they still would have made a ton of money, and alot more then the donation system pulls in.

Please tell me it isnt true
by Eugene Shubert ini have been accused of being too similar to the jehovah's witnesses in my teaching about jesus.
please tell me it isnt true.
if you could contrast my perspective in terms of jw belief and approximate your distance from me, i would sincerely appreciate it.

Is it possible that the JWs have a secret society at the top of its' ranks? Is it possible that the leadership believes in a different set of truths, or that it has a different agenda than that of it's millions of followers?
